Why iPad repair costs more than most people expect
People are often surprised that an iPad screen costs more than a phone screen. There are good reasons:
- The display is a laminated assembly. On modern iPads the glass, the LCD or OLED panel and the touch digitizer are bonded into one unit. If the glass cracks, the entire display assembly is replaced; the glass cannot normally be changed on its own.
- The parts are large. A bigger panel costs more to make, and the iPad Pro 13-inch uses one of the largest, most advanced screens Apple produces, with mini-LED or tandem OLED technology on recent models.
- The labour is delicate. The screen is attached with strong adhesive that must be softened with controlled heat and opened with special tools, and the work takes time because one slip can crack the new panel or damage the cables underneath.
- The battery is glued in. iPad batteries are large and bonded to the housing with adhesive strips, so replacement is a careful, longer job than on a phone.

Model-by-model notes
iPad 8th and 9th generation
These are the most common iPads in Delhi homes and schools. They have a Home button with Touch ID and a Lightning port. Typical repairs: cracked screens from children's drops, tired batteries, Home button faults and charging port wear. They are some of the most economical iPads to repair and are worth fixing in almost every case.
iPad 10th generation and iPad (A16)
These models have a larger 10.9-inch display, no Home button and a USB-C port. Screen replacement is more expensive than the older models, but a new display transforms the tablet. Port and battery repairs are standard jobs.
iPad mini 5, mini 6 and mini 7
The mini's compact build packs everything tightly, so repairs need extra care. The mini 6 and newer have a distinctive display that can show "jelly scrolling" in portrait mode on some units; that is a known panel trait, not a repair issue. Screen and battery repairs are common because minis are carried everywhere.
iPad Air 3, Air 4, Air 5 and newer Air models
The iPad Air bridges the base iPad and the Pro. Air 4 onwards use USB-C and a laminated display with an anti-reflective coating. Screen replacement needs great care to keep the coating intact and to preserve touch response.
iPad Pro 11-inch and 12.9 / 13-inch
The Pro line has the most advanced displays, including ProMotion 120 Hz, and from the M4 models onwards a tandem OLED panel on the 11- and 13-inch iPads. Repair or replace: how to decide
- Repair when the repair costs less than roughly 40–50% of the cost of an equivalent iPad. A screen or battery replacement on an iPad Air or Pro almost always makes sense.
- Consider replacing when the iPad is more than seven or eight years old, no longer receives iPadOS updates for the apps you need, or the board is badly damaged.

Before you hand over your iPad: a quick checklist
A little preparation makes the repair smoother, faster and safer for your data:
- Back up to iCloud or a computer. Even though most repairs never touch your files, a backup is cheap insurance.
- Note your passcode and keep your Apple ID details handy. We need to unlock the iPad to test it after the repair.
